The end of the world?

Geneva, 10th September 2008, 10h28 a.m. The first beam in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN was successfully steered around the full 27 kilometers of the world’s most powerful particle accelerator. This historic event marked a key moment in the transition from over two decades of preparation to a new era of scientific discovery. Recent fears of the LHC creating a black hole that in turn would swallow us up have so far proved unfounded, allowing us the time to enjoy a few more cigars before judgment day!
